Ave Verum (HL 49016838)
No, it is not only Mozart when hearing the Ave verum: Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921), too, set this text to music several times – for example, for organ (without pedal) and two identical voices. The organ may even be replaced by a piano, the vocal parts can be sung by two sopranos, soprano and mezzo-soprano, or soprano and alto. If the performers are good, one may even consider a performance of this sacred composition in groups. Now available in an attractive single edition, this setting is a valuable addition to the repertoire and impressive alternative to the common Ave settings.
